General Jiu Jitsu FAQs
What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ)?
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art focused on leverage, technique, and control rather than strength. It emphasizes ground fighting, submissions, and positional strategy, making it effective for self-defense, competition, and personal development.
Do I need experience to start Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?
No experience is required. Our beginner-friendly classes are designed for students with zero martial arts background. You’ll learn fundamentals in a structured, supportive environment.
Is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu good for self-defense?
Yes. BJJ is one of the most effective martial arts for real-world self-defense, teaching control, awareness, and techniques to handle larger or stronger opponents safely.
How often should I train in Jiu-Jitsu as a beginner?
Most beginners train 2–3 times per week. This allows consistent progress while giving your body time to recover and adapt.
What should I bring to my first Jiu-Jitsu class?
For your first class, bring comfortable workout clothes, water, and an open mind. If you don’t have a gi yet, many academies provide guidance or loaner options for trial classes.
